iOS Devices
‘ambrePole’ has been made for iOS devices only, which may expand in the future, but it is not currently a priority.
The survey should be conducted on an iPhone. Non field personal are always suggesting that a surveyor should use an iPad instead, but that is because they are never out there in the field except for project site instruction meetings or similar events. If they were actually using the device for practical application, they would quickly find out that the terrain one has to survey thru changes drastically on a continuous basis. And so, a surveyor finds himself jumping across ditches and ducking under & thru brush - where he or she has to juggle their device in and out of the pocket - almost all day long! Try putting your 10” iPad in your pocket and then jumping the ditch. Or reaching down a hand dug hole in the snow with you iPad to catch a shot of the anchor attachment, lol.
Plus, if you conduct full pole survey, the device is on and off of a tripod every pole.
The use of iPads is there, however. But just for people in the office really; who want to view or edit a surveyor’s project. Although, the kmz Google Overlay that the product exports, is almost always suffice - at least for viewing.
Get the largest screen iPhone you can, and consider the camera quality as well. The newer models have phenomenal camera attributes. We can’t wait to test the new 2020 model rumoured to have a 3x optical lens!
